0.2 is better in many ways (auto-detection, newer card support etc.) But if what you are using is working then it may be better to stay with what you have. As for working round the overscan it depends on what you want. I run X with no window manager and then change the overscan settings in mythtv. This works except for the OSD displayed during playback etc. which suffers overscan but this is not too bad and i may work around this in myth soon. The other way is to use a window manager that supports setting a virtual (smaller) screen size and configure it appropriatly. I have seen people mention that this works with ratpoison .
