I did the same last night (but i didn't have a spare hard drive, but

I then installed media portal from
http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/, and after some minor
configuration of channels/cards/etc, it worked flawlessly. MP looks
nice, and is on its way to becoming a very good application, I will
take pictures of my card, maybe it's because it's an iTVC16 based
chip, not iTVC15.

"ivtv: Found an iTVC16 based chip" is in both of our /var/log/messages.

That wouldn't have any effect on the tuner. Mine is actually an iTVC16, too.

Now that Linux 2.6.10 is out, the easiest fix for those using Linux 2.6.9 is to upgrade to 2.6.10. It is the first kernel release that contains a proper definition for both the LG TAPE and the TCL 2002N tuners (the same definition in the patches on Chris Kennedy's site--they are correct as explained in another post in this thread). Therefore, with Linux 2.6.10 and above, the tuner will work "out of the box." Whether or not the rest of the system (i.e. frequency table, ivtv driver, etc. is configured correctly is a whole different matter, though :).
