type 'modprobe tveeprom'

then type 'dmesg'

last few lines of output will have the information you
need:

here's mine:
tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 32552, rev = B123,
serial# = 6947765
tveeprom: tuner = Philips FM1236 (idx = 23, type = 2)
tveeprom: tuner fmt = NTSC(M) (eeprom = 0x08, v4l2 =
0x00001000)
tveeprom: audio_processor = MSP3440 (type = 11)
ivtv: i2c attach [client=tveeprom[0],ok]

tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 32552, rev = C168,
serial# = 7718593
tveeprom: tuner = LG TAPE H001F MK3 (idx = 68, type =
47)
tveeprom: tuner fmt = NTSC(M) (eeprom = 0x08, v4l2 =
0x00001000)
tveeprom: audio_processor = MSP3440 (type = 11)
ivtv: i2c attach [client=tveeprom[1],ok]

so on mine, one card has tuner type 2 and the other
has type 47

like i said before. newer versions of ivtv will set
the tuner type automatically using tveeprom. compiling
from source really isn't very hard... you may want to
give it a shot
