I was having a similar problem. What was happening on my system was some kind of file leakage. After running for a few days recording, watching then deleting shows the system would stop recording. As far as linux was concerned the filesystem was full even though there should have been at least 20 gigs free. My guess was that myth wasn't closing files properly. I added a cron job that restarts the backend each night after downloading the guids data and haven't had the same problem since.
