This is caused by the time it takes to delete the old ring buffer and
the time it takes to prebuffer the new channel. 5 seconds is actually
pretty good. That's about what mine is doing (700 Celeron). I've read
things such as changing the file system, getting better computer, etc.
but the best you are going to get is 3 seconds or so because of the
prebuffer stage. You need that 3 seconds to make sure are sending
complete mpeg frames to your card.

I just checked the "always use browse mode when changing channels in
LiveTV" option in tv settings-> playback near the end. This will pop up
the OSD and allow you to scan through what is on the channels quickly.
When you find something you press "ok" and it will change to that
channel. It will still take 5 seconds but you only have to do it once.

Subject: [ivtv-devel] PVR 350 Tuner/TV Out Question (tuner 47)

Hi,

So the tuner and tv-out both work on my pvr 350 (tuner 47) card using
ivtv 0.3.2i., but I had a couple questions.When I change channels with
ptune-ui or through mythtv, it takes around 5 seconds for the next
channel to display. Is this caused by the tuner or will the channels
change quicker if I was using a better system. My system is an 866 Mhz
pentium III with 256 megs of ram.

Also when using the TV Out, to display my desktop, a lot of the
desktop is cut off. Is there a way to change that. Here is the
important parts of my XF86Config-4 file
