I was getting warnings that Mythfilldatabase wasn't running but following some changes,
those seem to have stopped.

After further advances in learning to complete some of the missing fields in MythTV Setup, I was still having trouble. I tried $mplayer /dev/video0 and to my surprise, up came London's ITV1 (Channel 23) approx 487.22 Mhz. It wasn't stable but recompiling a more recent version with ./configure --disable-runtime-cpudetection seemed to cure it.

I exited mplayer and clicked the MythTVbackend. I then ran ps -ax|more to check that it was running. I clicked the MythTV Frontend icon and got a black screen with the hard drive having short bursts of activity at regular intervals. It reminded me of the sound of pall bearers
carrying a coffin.

I ESCaped and terminated the backend and tried mplayer again. This time all I got was a
window with thin horizontal black and white stripes.

I'm out of ideas.

Oh! one final thing, I accidentally installed a capture card pointing to /dev/video in addition to one pointing to /dev/video0. I only have one card. Can I delete the first entry? Indeed
should I?

TIA

Alan
