Tried 3.6u and it seemed to work (I was remote so I couldn't see the TV) -- thank you for your help, I'd tried several versions earlier to this and got always the same result. It's interesting that you notice 3.4p, it should have been running 3.6m or something to that effect... maybe I forgot a critical 'make install' somewhere.
