I've been trying to get a PVR-500MCE working on my dual Xeon machine and
I'm having real problems. I'm replacing a PVR-250 which seemed to work
fine but I need/want the dual tuners. This is all on a FC3 system
running 2.6.12 SMP.

I have built the most recent ivtv (0.3.6z), pulled the drivers from the
CD (and tried downloading) and put them in /lib/modules. If I'm not
careful how I load modules the entire machine hangs but I'm not to the
point where I do the following:

Strange that you can't just modprobe ivtv. Are the kernel versions of any of the modules still around and getting loaded?
I don't think so. I've deleted the ones that the ivtv build suggests I
delete and to be sure I copied them from the
/lib/modules/2.6.12-prep/ivtv/ directory to the corresponding kernel
drivers directory.

I gzip'd all .ko files in ../drivers/media/video anywhere I found them so I think I have only the /lib/modules/2.6.12-prep/ivtv and /lib/modules/2.6.12-prep/kernel/drivers/media/video copies (and they are identical).

I tried just a modprobe ivtv this time. It didn't work but didn't hang. Logs are here:

Oh yeah, in case it matters, I do not get successful creation of /dev/video*

D592... Not one I'm familiar with, mine's a D492. I didn't see any mention of the tda9887 in your dmesg output though, and I think you'll need it.

Hmmm, thought that was there. I'll have to check and try that again to
make sure.

No options here? Might try this :
options ivtv tda9887=0,0 ivtv_debug=1,1

See above. At least it now says it found the tda9887 but that doesn't help load the firmware.
