Can you try xine?

With the latest set of ivtv/X drivers, I found an unexplainable but
notable improvement of Xv using xine over mplayer...

I'm using these:

DVD: xine -pfhq --no-splash -r 4:3 dvd://
other: xine -pfhq --no-splash <movie file>
