I've been meaning to ask about this for a while. I'm running 0.3.8, as
evidenced by dmesg and my syslog:

But when I run modinfo is says this:
version: 0.2.0-rc3j
It's always said that for modinfo. I just assumed that the old version
info was tucked away in the code somwhere, but apparently it's not.
Where is modinfo getting the version info from, anyway? I tried grepping
for that string in /etc but didn't find it anywhere.
