Hans and David, thanks much for your suggestions. David, looks like you nailed
this one! I tore my system apart, and threw windows on it just as a sanity
check. to my surprise the ch. 9 problem persisted! So, i went around my house
unplugging stuff, no luck. then I started unplugging all unnecessary stuff
inside the mythbox. I unplugged a 60mm case fan and presto, interference GONE!
I have a fan controller built into the case i'm using, and i'm sure it just
uses PWM to throttle down the fan speed, which is notorious for causing
interference. Seems so simple in retrospect.

in any case, thanks again. I wouldn't have thought of that on my own.

I think it would more be an issue with some hardware in your pc or the
mainboard itself generating frequencies disturbing this channel. If the
machines are at different locations, it might also be a portable phone or
wireless transmitter that is causing interference. DECT phones always transmit
continously, even if you are not talking on them actualy
