Yep I ran into all these issues, and gave up on the piece of bloat 
(perhaps calling it bloat is unfair, I simply don't need all the 
functionality) that MythTV is (I never got the channel editor to work 
for the Dutch xmltv anyway, it just kept segfaulting). Now I just watch 
with mplayer /dev/video0 and tune with a bunch of aliases. ;)
