Bill, Is there any reason you are using FC3? I have had good luck with FC4, and would recommend that. I don't know if you are stuck on FC3 for some reason or not. I am just trying to help.
My FC4 box has my firmware directory with 0.4.0 in the /lib/modules directory and 0.4.2 has it in /lib/firmware. Are you compiling or using the RPMs? I have been able to get this all setup with little issue while using the RPMs after adding the testing ATRPMS branch. I would take a look at your modprobe.conf as well. I have a PVR-500 and mine looks like: alias char-major-81 ivtv alias char-major-81-0 ivtv alias char-major-81-1 ivtv alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv alias tuner tuner-ivtv alias tda9887 tda9887-ivtv alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv I found that the order of these in here makes a difference. If you are compiling, you may have to remove the -ivtv section of the lines.
