It might be helpful to see the dmesg stuff from the 5500 as well.

My /etc/modules.d/ivtv contains the following lines
alias char-major-81     videodev
alias char-major-81-0   ivtv

I have a pcHDTV 3000 and it usually tries to grab video0, so I force my ivtv cards to start at video1.  This keeps them from conflicting.  Like this :

# ivtv modules setup
alias char-major-81 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
alias char-major-81-2 ivtv
options ivtv ivtv_first_minor=1
