First, you may consider updating the help text of v4l2-ctl - because what
you just explained to me is *not* what the command description says.

As i suspected, this was not the solution. As I stated originally, I am
succesfully capturing video via the s-video input, but not receiving
audio. I do not even have the coax cable connected to the tuner input. I
cycled through all of the inputs using v4l2-ctl -i, with nothing changed.

cx25840 0-0044: Detected audio standard: no detected audio standard
cx25840 0-0044: Audio microcontroller: stopped
These lines make me wonder. Should they have this output if everything is
working correctly as far as the driver is concerned?

myth ~ # v4l2-ctl -I
Video input : 1 (S-Video 1)
myth ~ # v4l2-ctl -A
Audio input : 1 (Line In 1)
myth ~ # v4l2-ctl --log-status
