I have not yet had success getting ivtvdev to work with xorg 7.1. My
/etc/portage/packages.mask contains the following:

>=x11-base/xorg-server-1.0.99
>=x11-base/xorg-x11-7.1
>=x11-base/xorg-server-1.1.0
>=x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-1.1.2-r1
>=x11-drivers/xf86-video-vesa-1.2.0
>=x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse-1.1.1
>=x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.1.0
>=x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-1.1.2
>=x11-drivers/xf86-video-fbdev-0.3.0
>=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v4l-0.1.1

The newest package for ivtv (0.8.1-r1) should install the ivtv-fb
driver, but only if you have CONFIG_FB in your kernel. It's now using
the use keyword "fbcon" to enable the framebuffer module.

When I install xf86-video-ivtvdev, it installs xorg version 7.0-r1
(xorg-server 1.0.2-r7). I had to patch xf86-video-ivtvdev to get it to
compile, but I posted the changes I made to the bugzilla entry on
ivtvdev:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155274

This works for me on 2.6.18-r1, xorg 7.0-r1, ivtv 0.8.1-r1. Your
mileage may vary, but that's what I have working fine at the moment.
If you need to see any other version numbers or config files let me
know.
