Thanks for the tip Roger. The modinfo command on the audio chip for the 
PVR-150 does not provide any useful settable options (useful in terms of 
my problem):

One thing I have not tried is to play around with the new I2C option in 
the ivtv module.  I'm going to give that a try to see if the sound
