Good point. And I do have *some* successful recordings from the last few 
months, so this isn't happening 100% of the time.

I did see that thread, but assumed that silence indicated some sort of 
resolution. The lack of resolution is a little concerning, but at the same 
time, if it were a common problem there would be more traffic about it, 
right?

No, not a VIA chipset (as far as I can tell). I'm running on an MSI K9AG 
Neo2-Digital, which uses an AMD 690G northbridge and ATI 
southbridge/video. (I just noticed my BIOS is not up to date. I'll try 
that next, but unfortunately that won't be until Friday, at least)
