I'm afraid there probably isn't anything that I can do about it. It's as
good as it can get. As far as I can tell it works great for 99% of the
users if not more, but a small number of people still get this. The
only 'fix' I have is to move to a newer motherboard. Anecdotal evidence
suggests that Intel chipsets are the best, for whatever it's worth.
The core problem is that the DMA engine on the cx23415/6 is basically
broken. We no longer do scatter-gather DMA since that created these DMA
TIMEOUTs in particular, but from mails like yours it seems that on some
hardware it apparently can still happen.
I can try to take one more look at it if you can upgrade to the latest
v4l-dvb, run with ivtv-ctl -D0x463 and mail me the 1000 lines in the
log up to the DMA TIMEOUT.
Who knows, there might be some condition I didn't see before.
