And when it fails please, provide the complete cx18 related dmesg output
(don't grep on cx18, include all relevant lines) from the failure.  I
suspect you'll get a large count for 'write_retires[10]' which would
indicate persistent failures on the PCI bus when trying to write to the
chip (or may indicate an I2C bus device on the card didn't come out of
reset and is stuck).  Either was, driver version 1.0.2 was supposed to
address the PCI bus errors by retrying the writes... :(
