irw doesn't output anything unless the correct settings are put in lircd.conf
that's why you need to make sure you're detecting signals.
run irrecord. when it asks to press a button, press a button and keep
it down until it says you can release it.
that way you can build your own lircd.conf. but 1st you need to make
sure you are getting signals. strace lircd and check if it responds to
anything when you push a button.
