Otherwise it would be disruptive. I get why Maven users want this, but they should respect that not all projects use Maven or would benefit from using it themselves. Xerces isn't the only project (see FOP [2] for example) which feels this way. There really need to be solutions which don't require non-Maven projects to adopt Maven.
