I'd like to suggest the following project:

Support for the Bibliontology

The project attempts to capture BibTex like information in RDF/OWL
(http://bibliontology.com/). Zotero, the bibliography FF plugin, is
involved in the project. This project would involve writing import and
export of bibliographic information based on this RDF/OWL format.

BTW,

I applied as mentoring organization last year, for the CDK.sf.net and
Bioclipse.net, but both were declined. I also was mentor in the KDE
project's GSoC last year, involved in text mining using Strigi.
Regarding getting chosen as mentoring organization, chances are low,
statistically. One thing they value very much is how you pick
students, how you guide them, who are doing that, what back up plans
you have if a student disappears after having picked for a project,
etc. Make sure to have a clear plan on how you mentor the students,
and provide as much details as you can possible think of: which 10
people do you have lined up (KDE typically has one backup mentors for
each project!), what is their (open source) background, how are
candidates chosen (Google will put up all applications online where
project mentors can vote on applications for their project, hence
stressing the importance of having a good mentor line up and advertise
this), how are projects choses (KDE had a IRC session where votes were
discussed), who will benefit from your work, etc. Because no declined
project ever hears from Google, I have no idea how the specifically
pick their projects, particularly in respect to topic, but I recommend
stressing integration of JabRef in web2.0, OpenOffice etc. The latter
is likely a good selling point. Integration via RDF/OWL with for
example the Zotero plugin could be another...

Anyway, very much luck wished with the application!

Egon
