The first thing I did yesterday was to run Popeye from the jabref lib directory, and I used that for a short while before I discovered that it was an old version. So I updated it and then started working with Popeye 0.54. Perhaps the old version did some strange stuff with the escape sequences? Anyway, then I had many empty keys that I filled in, and this caused a lot of near-duplicates since I had already translated them before the escape sequences were messed up. I removed a lot of these near-duplicates, but probably some remain.
