Well, it's not a big deal, I think 'format' is more generic than 'print'.
For me 'printing' is putting something on paper. It was a logical term 
in the time there were no displays and typewriter terminal or teletype 
or line printer was the only output. I consider 'print' as a  'backward 
compatibility' term.   But it is so commonly used in several programming 
languages .....
