Hi William&all

There are two choices, SOIC or PDIP so you can solder rightnow any of those
(that's why in the schematic you can see two PIC's). However, DIP is easier
for soldering in this particular case of PCB with non conductive through
hole vias because the empty part (not soldered one) needs manual vias
connections for all signals which are switching the layer.

Yes that's correct, we can choose from two different families with 28 pins
because of the major differences in footprint. J series has a 2.5V built in
LDO which need a filtering capacitor on pin6, meaning that pin can't be used
for IO. However I've already modified schematics to accept both FJ or F
parts (both supplied at 3.3V )

Easy, the choice it's just the availability in this area and the good price.
I will download the 18F2585 datasheet and check the compatibility.

Right now I'm programming the new series of PICs with a pickit2 (if $50 is
too much, there are many clones available, just search at edaboard.com for
an 1:1 one), I'm not using any bottloader since the programming time (fast
programming) is less or equal than bootloading via RS232 or USB. For me,
botloader was just a faster way uf uploading the hex file, maybe I'm wrong
(like my other ideeas about jallib libraries)

People interested on this bare PCB, please study the schematic I have
attached in the previous email and find the compatibility with your
favourite PIC. Also add (or remove) possible features for the board.

However please consider I have a very limited spare time and do not ask for
a complete new configuration. :)

Vasile
