They should be aliased both ways so all chips have TX1 and TX. Hope
that answers all questions below.
For good working serial hardware libraries you need not only the
pin-aliases, also aliases for some registers, like RCREG for RCREG1 and
vice versa and similary TXREG, SPBRG(H/L), RCSTA, TXSTA.
These are already in place (as far as I know / have seen!).
However some (newer) PICs do not use the name RCREG1 but RC1REG (and the
same naming convention for other USART registers). Although this seems a
better naming convention to me, at the moment it is used for a minority
of PICs. So it seems we need to add another alias RCREG1 for RC1REG (etc
for related registers).
Furthermore: for the second USART the name RC2REG (etc.) is used with
these PICs, while the older PICs with 2 USARTs use RCREG2. Anyway for a
library supporting 2 USARTs another set of aliases seems to be required
(RCREG1 for RC2REG, etc).
When we proceed like this the device files will contain more aliases
than regular declarations.... ;-) Would the compiler have a limit?
Regards, Rob.
