Blink samples are indeed needed, but organized to folders and  combined
whereever possible. Even Microchip  does combine data sheets for the same
family of PICs like 12f629.675 or 18F2455_18F2550_18F4455_18F4550.


As for JAL/JALLIB usage, I suspect that the bigger flash PICs are a siren

Jaluino could be a good start for more adoption, as far as I know there's
no  board with SD card support with that kind of pricing.
Read and write to fat32 with RTC can be used in lots of data logging
applications.
