The question is not whether or not Cornerstone is broken, but rather whether
the scheduler facility is being used in the way in which it is intended.
Perhaps using socket timeout is sufficient, or perhaps a lightweight
watchdog facility is needed.
Using the current scheduler as a watchdog is not a good thing because of how
the scheduler tracks entries, and handles rescheduling. A lightweight
watchdog would work differently.
