More tomorrow, but my first glance at the code points something out. Are
you not familar with this:
http://www.cs.umd.edu/~pugh/java/memoryModel/DoubleCheckedLocking.html? You
used the paradigm, which people initially thought was a good solution, but
it has been shown that it simply doesn't work.
Also, if you want me to re-run tests against your server, please update
SMTPHandler. :-)
