I think there might be a point I don't understand here. I thought my
particular instance of a mail server's raison d'tre would be to serve mails
to the users it manages and allow those users to send mail to the outside
world. By no means does anybody in my "organization" (9 people) want to
receive email about Viagra and hair loss pharmaceuticals, or about "how to
get rich with zero effort",... It's as if the emails were processed in batch
on a per company basis: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], etc... (and b.com is not
my organization)

Could it be that the mail system is conceived in such a way that servers
serve as relay to each other ? but then if that is so natural, what is the
definition of an "open-" relay, which is known to be so baad ?

Thanks for your explanations, really I'm a bit confused...

: It seems those errors suggest that the identified email server or email
: account cannot be located. You should expect this: people will type in
: invalid email addresses and domains. I will admit that it is weird that
: 'exceptions' are thrown in such cases - but that may be the only way to
: trap the error efficiently.
: So, nothing can be done to prevent this, and you wouldn't want to!
