I am not just running Jserv; I have mod_perl, php, and a few other
modules I cannot recall right now running. Likewise, I set special
parameters for Apache due to the fact that I need a compile that is
different than the default installation of Apache. EVEN AFTER doing it
the hard way, and after creating scripts to do everything for me, it
takes 2 hours. Most of the time, I start it and go to lunch.

Additionally, sue to the nature of the information we are accessing,
security is of the utmost importance, The default config of Apache is
not the most secure there is.

But you are right: for most people, the RPM route is the easiest and
takes no time at all. However, even if you cannot do the RPM route due
to special config needs, you can still do it from source and do it in a
wee bit of time.
