Java's a memory and performance hog, the Swing components are memory
and performance hogs, and there is not yet a Linux JDK with the advanced
memory and performance optimizations available in the Windows world.

I've sweat plenty of blood trying to take "a bit more time trimming the
memory requirements" of my own apps... it's not easy.
