Nearly everything that's available on Linux is available on Solaris, if not always pre-compiled (which I do not consider a problem). I develop Java programs on a SPARC with Solaris for deployment on Windows, Linux and Solaris. > meanwhile another option for linux users is gcj/gij, this runs fine > on sparc & sparc64, for example build and run openoffice.org The problem is that Linux on SPARC doesn't allow you to compile for Solaris - and one of the reasons to use a SPARC workstation is to develop software for the larger Solaris servers. There are better platforms to run Linux (and *BSD) than SPARC.
