Hmm. Nearly everything that's available on Linux is available on
Solaris, if not always pre-compiled (which I do not consider a
problem). I develop Java programs on a SPARC with Solaris for
deployment on Windows, Linux and Solaris.

The problem is that Linux on SPARC doesn't allow you to compile for
Solaris - and one of the reasons to use a SPARC workstation is to
develop software for the larger Solaris servers. 

There are better platforms to run Linux (and *BSD) than SPARC.
