Well, I figure I should pipe in finally.
I'm on the same project as Dave, FYI.
I believe there is plenty of serious support for these efforts. Dave and
myself were on seperate groups that sort of linked/share code because it
became useful. The main problem with combining efforts is mainly due to the
small details. UDP/TCP/RMI over TCP/XML/etc/etc. Whatever the details are,
there is still no single effort to model this realm in any great detail, and
that's definitely needed.
I'd really love to see a group formed to create an object model for a new
world, an abstract model that any sort of game can be built upon, be it PVP
or more immersive, or whatever. I think my group is trying to build that,
but that's not our primary focus at the moment. I know it's one of my long
term goals, and I'll do it someday...
Anyway, if I can suggest it, I'd create a group to write up an object model
and code some core objects. Give us all a base to start with and grow on.
The benefits are great, imho, and I won't go into them, this is a J3D list.
But, get that base and everyone can part ways to go work on their own stuff,
and give pieces back as they're useful.
Later,
Matt

I think we all need to organize into a really solid unified effort. As my
following post will explain, I'm ready if there is enough serious support.
