We're using JBuilder Professional 2.01, on PII 266, NT 4.0, 128Mb ram
and it is not overly robust. It crashes, locks up, and sometimes just
totally disappears on a regular basis. Not to mention the memory
leaks. It leaks badly.
However, it does compile and run Java2 easily, (but doesn't display any
help). Java3D is not a problem either. What you can't do with Java2 is
debug, as JBuilder only allows you to debug the Borland 1.1.6 JDK (which
has some bugs itself). The GUI builder component still insists on using
the "com.sun.java.swing" packages but that can be manually changed.
We've been using JBuilder for around 10 - 12 months, and version 1.x was
an absolute shocker. Version 2.0 is a lot better and far far more
stable. On the whole, its not a bad product if you can put up with some
of the defects. If you are going to use it make sure you have lots of
memory available (its a hog).
Take this with a grain 'o' salt since it is the only Java IDE that I've
used (unless you count notepad and a DOS shell).

I was hoping to hear an answer to this as well.
My reasons are purely economic. I have access to an old version of Cafe
which does not support Java 2 and I do not have the cash on hand to
upgrade. I do have access to the most current version of J++ here at
work. So, if I could use Java 2.0 and Java3D with J++, I could use it
until I purchased a new version of Cafe.
While we're on the topic, I would like to hear what people prefer for
development on Windows. Cafe looks good. I've heard good things about
JBuilder. And VisualAge looks exciting. But I do not have much practical
experience with any of them. I'd like to hear what good/bad about each
and how well they work with the media API's, specifically Java3D.
Thanks.

Why would you want to mix Java and Microsoft? Isn't that a little (or a
lot)
like mixing hens and coyotes?
Hint: Symantec Cafe looks and feels just like J++, but uses real Java,
not a
polluted Java fake.

Hi! Does anybody succeeded in using j3d with wfc and J++? Is
it
possible? J++ doesn't seem to support jdk1.2's features so the two
doesn't
sounds really compatible for me but I can easily be wrong, am I?
Thank you,
Stephane
