Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of redoing parts of the Java 3D FAQ at http://www.j3d.org
to make it easier to find the information, and to update things that need to
be updated. One of the sections I'm working on is "getting Java 3D working
in a browser".

I recently installed the JRE for Java 1.2.2, and Java 3D on a Windows
machine. I installed both in the default area where each wanted to be
placed. Java had not been installed on this machine before, and installing
this also installed the Java Plugin for 1.2. (I'm the only person with access
to this machine).

After doing this, I tried to run a Java 3D applet, (HelloUniverse), in
netscape and it just ran. I didn't have to create signed jar files, or
anything. I just copied the class files over my HTML directory, and it
worked.

Needless to say, seeing this happen suprised me quite a bit, since there have
been many postings about this topic in the past.

Since I'm in the process of rewriting this (and other) sections of the Java 3D
FAQ, I want to know what other peoples *recent* experiences have been with
running Java 3D in a browser. Is signing the JAR files a thing of the
past? Is it because the Java 3D libs are now placed in a default location
that the plug-in deems "secure"? (which is what I suspect) Any thoughts on
this?

Steve
