I never once stated that you should be disbelieved. I was merely stating my opinion on
the vagueness and non-specificity of the FAQ with regards to OpenGL and its future as
a working part of Fahrenheit. I do make a comparison of it to a marketing fluff piece
and if you're offended by that I apologize. But that doesn't change the fact that it
appears to be worded to leave out any mention of OpenGL as a *long-term* component of
Fahrenheit.

I never said that Fahrenheit would replace OpenGL nor was it implied. What I said was
that MS could use Fahrenheit as a tool to try to marginalize OpenGL in the 3D market.
I also never said that MS would try to remove OpenGL support from *W2K*. What I did
say, although I could have phrased it less provocatively, was that it would be
possible for MS to remove OpenGL from Fahrenheit once Fahrenheit was in wide usage.

I disagree, although any specific Fahrenheit issues should be left for elsewhere. This
is a Java3D list and issues concerning the underlying graphics layers should be a
valid point of discussion here. Sun should be very concerned about what happens to
OpenGL when it comes to Java3D, unless they plan to get D3D for Unix. (Considering the
current legal problems between Sun and MS over Java itself and given McNealy's
well-known dislike of MS, I would have a hard time believing that could happen.) The
question Sun has to ask itself is what will it do for an open standard low-level
graphics lib if OpenGL is taken out of the running in the 3D market?
As for my previous post being ad hominem, that was not my intent. I was merely trying
to point out that you have a vested interest in D3D and *not* OpenGL. Again, this may
have been stated too provocatively, but you'll forgive me if I don't believe that MS
has the best interests of OpenGL users in mind as part of its long-term 3D strategy.
