The following FAQ URL provided the best information I could find about
Java 2 on the Mac. The FAQ list isn't maintained by apple but is linked
on Apple's
Developer web site. According to the FAQ, Java 2 will only be available
for MacOS X, and not until later this year.
The FAQ URL is:

Apple's developer site on Java:
http://developer.apple.com/java/index.html
Hope this helps.
See you later,
Jeff
I also looked on the Apple web site... they seem to have a policy about not letting out information about projects in the works. It's as if they don't want to look bad if the project is not on time or if they decide to give up. How can we as developers plan for the future if we don't know the plans of our target platforms?Well, I've put out a phone call myself about the matter. I'll respond back if I learn anything. J.
