Lee,

I'm running in 16bit with the 5382b08 driver from ATI's site.

When I moved to this driver, my performance increased noticably. This was the most 
stable
and fastest driver from ATI that I've found for my video card. It's claimed to be a 
'beta' driver,
but if that doesn't bother you or you just want to try it, it can be found at:

http://www.ati.com/na/pages/spdrivers/index.html

at the end of the list.
