I agree that there is the possibility for task switching during full screen display; but this, technically, loss of focus, can be handled by the programmer an should not be an issue in our discussion whether or not it is handy to have a full-screen-mode in J3D.
In my view, the advantage of full screen is that you can develop even projector application [which are projected on a wall or a "3D-CAVE"-System without having the user note you are actually not in the "virtual world" you want him to be.
The next thing is the performance: Do we want java to be a visualisation package for internet/scientific purposes or do we want to rate it on the REAL 3D APIs like DirectX and/or (O)GL. And that's a clear computing power thing (hence the question: is J3D's Performance ready to meet fullscreen apps ?)

I agree with you in most cases, although I can think of one case where you
would want to make an exception... Mainly, if you want to be able to plunk a
young child in front of your computer, without fear he/she will accidentily
be switching between windows.  As it stands, this can not be done in Java,
since Windows will still take over ALT-TAB, etc.

It's not a major issue, but I can see the need.
