Bobby,
I can say that I'm running with an ATI Rage Pro
and OpenGL with hardware acceleration on Windows NT 4.0
in a window.
You need to have set your display driver to 16 or 32 bit (not 8 or 24) and
you need a relatively up-to-date driver from ATI.
I'm getting good results on NT with driver 5.38.2b08 from
http://www.ati.com/na/pages/spdrivers/drivers.html
