Hi,
I have to feel the same way. I'm part foa company which is looking for a
really good way of getting 3d on the weband for general applications
building. I chose java 3d due to knowing java.
So far i've had nothing but problems with it.
1. Loaders. From my previous messages on here i'm sure people can guess i've
had problems getting these to work. Why only have 2 loaders built in. I
never know where to place the extra loaders i download and so have only ever
got one extra loader to work. I'm still trying to get the ncsa one's to
work.
2. Tutorials and examples. I've got a compy of the sun java3d tutorial
printed out and have looked at and read most of it. Currently i've found a
far better resource site at
http://www.vislab.usyd.edu.au/java3d/slides/mt0000.htm which is titled
"introduction to programmiong with java3d". It's far better than any of the
tutorials i've found so far.
3. Bugs. I've not come across a problem with this but due to having hardly
started with java3d thats hardly surprising really. Once i've got into it
abit more i may well find i've having problems due to them.
For java3d to be a viable option for most people it really is going to have
to change.
My experince in java is very limited due to not having had the chance to
program in it for a while (company i work for "loves" macromedia propducts
so i've been stuck using Director *ergh* for a while. These posts have got
me to feel that i could easily knock up some simple examples that only need
to gice people a taster of what it's capable of. It'd help me alot to do
this aswell and maybe persaude my company that it's a vaible platform. Whish
is one thing i'm struggling to do currently.
Thats my rant on the subject. From someone who would love to use java3d but
in the 2 weeks of looking at it has got along way in learning it but has hit
so many problem i wonder why i've not given in, and why i've not managed to
learn far more aswell.
