I (or somebody else in the audience) asked about overlays while Michael
Schulman was down in Orlando at a JUG mtg. Somebody at FullSail (was it
you Shawn K.?) mentioned some problem with current video hardware.
Overlays are easy *if* the hardware has overlay plane buffers. I too
would like to see overlay planes, though I agree range-ordered
transparency rendering is more important.
Historically, overlay planes (at least in OpenGL on Sun & SGI) means
creating a new window. It would be like a Canvas3D over another
Canvas3D.
