Thats an interesting question, considering that Java3D is a scenegraph not
just a drawing api. Scenegraphs are more organized, and setup for finding
objects in a scene, and certainly they support pickRay tools as well.

But I personaly think if they do, do it, it should probably be an API, so
that diffrent renderers can be used for drawing the graphics (there is a ton
of renderers out there these days). As a matter of a fact, it would be
interesting if they adopted a driver kind of policy, so that NVidia, ATI,
3DLabs, etc etc, could license Java3D and create specialized versions of it
that take advantage of their hardware, and certainly they could even add
realtime lighting effects for shadows and other elements.

Im not sure if they are quite ready for this though. But the next couple of
versions should prove interesting as new features are added. But everyone is
free to use the current architecture to create a ray tracer, and probably
even a scan line raytracer..
