Because I'd rather help Microsoft to improve their website than just
find an easy fix (and the fact that the level of interest was too low to
even spend $5 or whatever they want for the CD - my customer's corporate
management was and still is firmly supporting continuing of Netscape as
their standard browser). Thanks to Paul's suggestion this was easily
solved. Although after installing IE5.5 the machine no longer seems to
function reliably... sigh...
