Basically I think Java 3D is fantastic... Its great to program in and has
everything I need. The main problem is getting maximum compatibility...
I'm working specifically with streaming across low bandwidth connections, so
ideally I don't want to ask users to install J2 and J3D (nearly 8MB) when
the applets are less than 200K.
I basically hoped to continue with J3D and that the installed user base
would grow and grow but I was shocked when Netscape didn't include it in its
latest version despite included 30-40MB of other (what I would consider)
Junk.
I'm thinking of a temporary solution (until J3D is standard) which will be
using a software rendered built on Java 1.1 in an attempt to maximise user
base. Has anyone had similar experience? Which of these methods did you
chose?
