I made a more extensive search of this archive and found some information on highlighting a textured surface. Please, correct me if my understanding of the issue is not right. I will summarize my finding bollow.
1) Such effects as highlights/glitters/sport light can be "caught" only by separate rendering of specular color(effect of highlighting) and texture. 2) This effect is supported for most DirectX configurations 3) This effect is not supported for OpenGL. 4) Release 1.3 will address the issue of a highlight for OpenGL by introducing a separate parameter associated with the View. This still might not be supported by some OpenGL libraries. Please, let me know if I am wrong.
