Hi,

I have a dual cpu configuration and it is actually working
much better than a single CPU because the "IDE" disks
consume a lot of CPU time. However, if you have SCSI disks,
a single faster CPU might be a good cheaper configuration.
Java3D is running multi-threaded and if you have more CPUs
    it will take advantage it.

    I have a dual celeron 466Mhz (ABIT-BP6) W2K system and I it
runs much bettern than a 1Ghz PIII. At least the system won't
be stalled by the heavy IDE disk I/O.

Subject: Re: [JAVA3D] New system configuration question

hi,

nice setup for a machine. but if you're running windows on it a dual cpu board won't bring you that much advantages. it ain't worth the money with windows installed. and why ain't linux an option? For pure development it is even better than windoze. (my guess would be because of the graphic/3d modelling software, it's really scarce on linux, ok.)

if someone has more recent news on the dual cpu with windoze topic, please post it.

I am designing a new development system which I am hoping will get me
through the next 3 years. I was wondering if people have any experience
with this and could offer suggestions. Linux is not an option, although I
will be putting it on my current system as a test box.

The pertinent stats are:

2 GHz Pentium 4
1 GB memory
64 MB DDR Geforce III w/ DVI
Sound Blaster Live

With that much memory I have to go with either Window's 2000, Window's XP or
Windows Xp Professional.

Does anyone have Java3d working well under those operating systems? Does
anyone have recently released games working on this configuration at all?
Any basic advice?
