The concept for the original game started as a "Tamagotchi" type game, with
little, kid-friendly monsters to feed and care for. The whole thing was
browser-based, and grew over the next year and a half to be a pretty darn
big RPG.

And now we have a pretty big back-story, character histories, legends, and
even about 50 fan sites. The kiddies love it.

I've been trying to create a 3D follow-up for awhile, but ran into a
roadblock with each technology I tried to use. Flash wasn't powerful
enough. VB couldn't handle rendering and receive data from the server at
the same time without stuttering, C++ was, well, a bit over my head. Java
and Java3D has been perfect, the right balance of performance and a
high-level 3D, as well as networking API's really makes it a no-brainer for
this project.
